Technical NotesLessons from enterprise IT.
Short, practical notes on the systems I work with. Each starts with the business need and follows through to operations.
Oracle EBSDiagnosing Oracle EBS performance issues
When an EBS process slows down, start with the affected workflow and a clear time window. A report, concurrent request and user screen can have very different bottlenecks.
- Establish what changed: data volume, configuration, patching, integrations or the workload schedule.
- Check the application and database layers together, including concurrent managers, waits, SQL execution plans and resource pressure.
- Measure one change at a time and compare it against the original user-facing task.
A useful fix improves the business process without simply moving the delay to another part of the system.
Oracle Cloud InfrastructurePlanning secure OCI infrastructure
Cloud setup is an operational design decision as much as a deployment task. Access, network boundaries, backup and cost need owners from day one.
- Group resources with compartments and least-privilege access, then design VCNs and traffic rules around actual application flows.
- Define backup and recovery objectives, and test restoration rather than assuming a successful backup means a usable recovery.
- Monitor capacity, availability, security findings and spending as part of routine operations.
The best environment is one the team can understand, maintain and recover under pressure.
Business IntelligenceDesigning useful OBIEE dashboards
A dashboard should answer a decision, not display every available metric. Begin with its audience, the questions they ask and the definitions behind each number.
- Agree on measures and filters before building visualizations; make ownership of the data clear.
- Keep the semantic model consistent so different teams see the same definition of a key metric.
- Validate results with users, then tune queries and prompts for common usage patterns.
Clarity and trust matter more than the number of charts on the page.
